Welcome to Bark Line Studio. From the red-gold landscapes of South Africa to the sun-dappled shores of Australia, our story has been one of place, passion and purposeful design. As a Registered Architect in South Africa and now a celebrated Building Designer in Australia, Kobus has always believed that every space tells a story—and that narrative begins in the clay.

Rooted in Architecture
After earning my architectural degree and professional registration in Bloemfontein South Africa, I spent years weaving together structure, light and landscape to create homes that feel both grounded and expansive. In 2019, I relocated to Australia, where I now partner with builders, landscape architects and craftspeople to bring each vision to life. My architectural practice is dedicated to spaces that respond to climate, celebrate materials and invite the outdoors in.

Shaped by Clay
Along the way, my lifelong love of working with clay found a new outlet. What began as weekend pottery workshops blossomed into a small ceramics studio where I can explore form and texture by hand—and increasingly by 3D-printing techniques informed by my architectural precision. Today, our curated collection of ceramics—from tactile planters to bespoke tableware—serves as the finishing touch to the homes and retreats I design. Each piece embodies the same principles I bring to architecture: balance, sustainability and a respect for nature’s beauty.

A Unified Practice
At Bark Line Studio, architecture and ceramics come together under one roof. Whether I’m drafting blueprints for a bushland pavilion or molding the rim of a coffee cup, my goal remains the same: to craft environments and objects that feel personal, timeless and in harmony with their surroundings. Every project—big or small—carries the spirit of two continents, one creative journey and a deep belief in the power of material, form and story.

We invite you to explore our portfolio of architectural projects and discover the ceramics that complete them. Welcome to a design practice where structure meets surface, innovation grows from the earth, and every detail reflects a life lived between two worlds.
